This painting involves the culmination of everything I have learned in the past eight years of painting. It is a mixed media piece that includes oil paint, watercolor, acrylic, and resin (both mixed and unmixed with pure pigment). The composition of the piece was designed to bring out the strong points of each of the mediums. Careful use of the resin is the secret that allows you to mix the water and oil colors together along with the acrylic in a stable way that maintains its archival qualities. Along the left and right sides of the painting are extremely textured ...
Coca~cola
This painting is part of my 'Poetry of the Senses,' and is a flavor painting. Each color in the painting represents a paticular flavor found in a Coca-Cola. The colors are meticulously chosen for their ability to interact with the other colors in the precise way that the flavors interact with one another. This painting is actually done on three seperate panes of glass that are seperated from each other by a speacially built frame. This gives the painting much deeper depth allowing the light much more penetrating power through the layers of translucent paint. Prints will be available soon.
Woman Resin study #1
I had an incredible time working on this piece. My objective was to marry the flowing qualities of the resin with the precise color control that oil paint gives me to achieve a look that appears natural and organic yet also rigid in form. The surface of the painting is almost as smooth as glass. My paintings have traditionally always had raised lines, while this is a necessity for me to be able to feel the lines it is also a limitation in that it restricts the flow of paint like a dam across a river. The trouble was that ...
Something’s Wrong with this Picture
Whenever I hear music I see color; this painting is a visual note for note interpretation of the bass line for ‘Something's Wrong with this Picture' by Galactic. The coloration of the woman is taken from the flavors from a Punch (Rothschild) cigar. Prints will be available soon.
New York State of Mind
Whenever I hear music I see color; this painting is a visual note for note interpretation of ‘New York State of Mind’ by Billy Joel. Writing that appears on side supports of painting - Right Side: It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me because I've let it slide - Out of touch...free... Bottom: I know what I'm needing, and I don't want to waste more time. No Reasons Left side: I don't have any reasons, I've left them all behind, I'm in a New York State of Mind - 11 seconds Top: It was so easy living ...
Western Heritage
Growing up in Texas you are surrounded by a rich tradition that is unlike any other place in the world. The idea of the Cowboy lifestyle and the freedom that it represents has always been embraced by the people of this state. It is a way of life that is older than the state of Texas, The Republic of Texas – in fact it stretches back over 400 years to the vaqueros that worked the plains of what is now Texas and New Mexico. Living in this part of the world the culture becomes a part of you in ways ...
Merlot – Bogle Vintage 2007
This painting is part of my 'Poetry of the Senses,' and is a flavor painting. Each color in the painting represents a paticular flavor found in the 2007 Bogle Merlot. The colors are meticulously chosen for their ability to interact with the other colors in the precise way that the flavors interact with one another. Prints will be available soon
Man Resin Study #2
I refer to this painting as the ‘Hero’ painting because the initial inspiration for this work comes from the comic heroes. I was interested in how heroes are portrayed in popular culture and how this differs from actual heroes in real life. Most people that demonstrate courage and honor in their lives do not have ripped abs or arms the size of tree trunks. The most courageous person I ever met was a 16 year old boy who was thin as a rail and never complained once even though he was at the end of his life. I have stripped ...

Artist Talk! August 22 at 3PM in the Haley-Henman GalleryMerlot Painting on exhibit I’ll be giving my artist talk for the Haley-Henman show on Sunday August 22nd at 3PM. What to expect at an art talk like this? Well, for all intents and purposes the gallery is closed except for people attending the talk which makes it a much more relaxed atmosphere, just a few people sitting around have a conversation,... My Friend TerryTerry This is a painting I just started today, but it is one that I have wanted to do since I began painting. The painting will be a music painting, all of the colors of the painting will come from Hot Chip’s song Colours, and will be included in my Poetry of the Senses series that will be showing at Haley-Henman in a few weeks. The figure... [Read more of this review]
Wood Working BlindVideo – So far I still have ten fingers; so I feel pretty good about that. I like to be hands on with every aspect of my art, and that includes stretching my own canvas, cutting the supports for those, and also cutting and shaping the wooden panels that I paint on when I chose to paint on wood. In the video I show a few of the tools that I... [Read more of this review]
Overlooked Artists: Bob RossBob Ross was not always surrounded by happy trees and lazy clouds. He spent 10 years in the U.S. Air Force where apparently he screamed enough for a lifetime because he vowed when he left the service that he would never yell again. Overlooked Artists: Norman RockwellIf you are an artist and people all over the world know your name, and you have millions of fans then you would think that at the very least you would be viewed as a serious artist.
