The best place I have ever stayed.
I have been very fortunate that my painting has taken me to many different places, and each one of which has its distinctive qualities. New York is a town that never sleeps, San Diego has the weather, Miami has a distinctive Cuban flavor, Holland is the most laid back – maybe competing with Canada on that one though, and so on. Of all of the places that art has taken me to none of them can compare with the peace and quiet, comfort and friendliness of the Jackson Street Guest House in Winnsboro, LA. I don’t do reviews; in fact I usually don’t even notice where I am staying all that much, but when you come across something that is just perfect you have to step back and say something about it.
First of all you feel like a guest; not a hotel guest, but the actual definition of the word guest – as in a friend has stopped by, and has decided to spend the night sort of guest. With that said you have complete privacy; I had expected a bed and breakfast type of arrangement where everyone has a bedroom, and you all meet downstairs for breakfast or coffee. Jackson Street though is an actual house that you have to yourself – it is just a wonderful idea. The house is older, as you would expect and want from a bed and breakfast, but has been so meticulously restored and decorated that it feels like it could be brand new – instead of an older home brought into our era; it feels more like it has instead transported you back to a time when all furniture was made of wood, porches were a place for families to congregate in the evening, and good manners and Sunday dinners for the whole family were the rule and not the exception. All this, but it has all the modern amenities woven seamlessly in – wi/fi, bose radio, modern kitchen… the list really just goes on and on.
The only problem with the place is that they are going to have to pry me out to get me to leave.
Oh, and if Echo had thumbs she would be giving this place a big thumbs up for the huge back yard! In fact I’m going to stop writing now; I think she wants me to take her on another tour around the yard!

The Jackson Street Guest House is truly remarkable. Paul and Lindy Price did a beautiful job of creating a great place for guests to stay while in Winnsboro. If you haven’t been to Winnsboro lately, you should go. There are quaint and unusual shops and great places to eat…especially Big John’s and Brown’s Landing. The burger at BJ’s and the catfish at Brown’s are awesome!
