Happy Birthday Penny Pooper
Jacqi and I were racking our brains trying to think of the theme for Jack’s 2 year birthday party. We did a ‘space’ theme last year where we covered the walls in black plastic with star stickers all over them, hung different sized balls from the ceilings to look like planets, and built a robot out of cardboard that moved its arms and flashed its lights. I think we probably had more fun decorating than the kids did playing in it all. What to do this year though? I’ve scoured the web looking for helpful hints and insightful ideas. There are 70’s disco parties (sounds groovy to me), American Idol parties (oh lord – children singing karaoke ; hell‘s soundtrack couldn‘t be any scarier to me), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (yup they’re still around), princess parties (thank goodness Jack’s a boy), and a million others all with specially designed everything to go along with them.
Then the most novel idea of all struck me; how about a Birthday Party themed party. The cake could be cake shaped – instead of made to look like a character from the latest Pixar or Disney movie. We could hang banners that say Happy Birthday, and get balloons that say it too, and run streamers all over the place. I know it sounds crazy, but it might just work. All the other parents are going to be so jealous they didn‘t think of it first.
Oh, I almost forgot – the penny pooper part of the story. Jack ate a penny; my uncle Joe said he was probably just looking for a little change in his diet. Don’t worry though; this is definitely one of those stories where it all worked out in the end.
