We had a lot of fun at Artbreak in Shreveport last April. About 15,000 local school children attended Artbreak this year. We taught children how to paint without using their eyesight by blindfolding them and having them feel the different textures of the paint. Each color of paint the children used had a different texture. Yellow was thick and gritty for instance while blue was smooth and runny. The kids picked up on the technique almost immediately and even some of the parents gave it a try.We enjoyed working with the children and it seemed like we made an impact on the kids as well. One little girl told me that I was the first blind person that she had met that didn’t scare her. I have to say I was very impressed with how much creativity and raw talent the children had.
