Dallas Mayor’s Disability Awareness Gala

Debbie Garrison who works on the Dallas Mayor’s Committee for Disabilities asked me to donate a painting that would be auctioned off to raise money for scholarships that would go to disabled children. I did the painting “Dallas” for them, done from memories I had from my childhood when I would have hospital stays in Dallas and look at the skyline out of my window. I also had very good memories of my parent’s taking me to the Old Red Courthouse and John Bryan’s Cabin. Through those experiences Dallas felt like home to me even though we didn’t live there. I was extremely honored to be asked to donate a painting to a city that I love and I am very proud of the work that the Dallas Mayor’s committee is doing. They serve as a role model for other cities to follow that lack such a strong voice for people with disabilities in their communities.
